Review: Monsters of Glam

Monsters of Glam is a solid, fun game for playing a rock band in its final tour. Despite not being terribly interested in glam or punk rock, I found myself interested in playing it. The use of guitar picks for randomizers is a nice touch, and the three-way trade-off among personal success, redemption from the band member you have wronged, and the band's success is what really makes the game compelling.

This game is wonderfully evocative, with the playlist of songs being the success mechanic for the tour, the different types of rockers presented, and the fairly freeform scenes culminating in the origin for each of the song names. That being said, the post-play mechanic of altering the master character sheets based on the changes in the game seems to serve no purpose other than to tag the real-world part of the Last Chance theme. The other term ingredients are likewise underutilized, not even present as types of rockers, but as one of three styles on a particular rocker type. The Forge thread ingredients on the other hand do seem well incorporated as inspiration. One of the ingredients is actually one of my early Forge threads, and I'm glad that despite the fact the playtest link is long dead, it has been of some use.

I'm afraid I don't have much more to comment on this game, it's sparse but appears fully functional. All in all, Monsters of Glam is seriously ready for play, and I'm tempted to give it a shot with the right folks. I just might have to reskin it as Americana and find where my wife put her extra guitar picks first.
